Bubbles

Two immiscible fluids are simulated without (left) and with (middle) surfactants added. Without surfactants the two bubbles quickly coalesce, but with surfactants they bounce off. The concentration of surfactants is the largest at the interface, as is investigated in the rightmost animation.

The modeling and the numerical method is described in S. Engblom, M. Do-Quang, G. Amberg, and A-K. Tornberg: On diffuse interface modeling and simulation of surfactants in two-phase fluid flow, in Commun. Comput. Phys. 14(4):879--915, 2013: (doi).
